Vision
The Accrediting Alliance for Training and Development (AATD) is the internationally recognized accrediting agency for standards and authorization in the human resource development field.
Mission
To foster quality, integrity and excellence in training and development worldwide through research, education, competency-based quality standards and criteria and guidelines for assessing educational effectiveness.
Goals
  • To refine and provide criteria, standards and procedures expressively designed for evaluation and optimization of training and development activities;
  • To publish and distribute research-based educational materials related to training and development;
  • To promote the Training & Development Credit (TDC)TM and to authorize training professionals to award TDCsTM based on AATD criteria;
  • To sponsor research projects focused on furthering excellence in training and development.
History and Milestones
1974 A group of more than 200 training professionals form the European Trainer Pool.

Training Magazine, Germany - the business publication for training professionals - first issue is published.
1975 Cooperation with New York University, School of Continuing Education to conduct public seminars and workshops for trainers and consultants.

First International Trainer Colloquium at New York University with more than 60 participants of the European Trainer Pool.
1976 The study "Chances, Limits and Risks of Behavior Modification" is published.
1977 The study "Roleplaying: More damage than Benefits" is published.
1978 Second International Trainer Colloquium at New York University with more than 80 participants from the European Trainer Pool. Guest speakers: Dr. Scott B. Parry, president of Training House; Dr. Edward J. Robinson, Professor at Harvard University; Fanita English, Psychotherapist and Trainer of the International Transactional Analysis Association (ITAA).
1979 First Certificate Program for Training Professionals in cooperation with New York University is started.
1980 A competency-based needs-analysis system for training and development is published.
1981 The first competency-based Sales Style Analysis is developed.

A research project for the study of core competencies in sales is conducted.
1982 STAR, the Sales Talent Assessment Review, is developed.

Validation and reliability studies for STAR are conducted.
1983 A study on new motivational techniques is conducted.

The video series "New Chances for Motivating Employees" is produced.
1984 "Train the Trainer" program, in cooperation with Training House and New York University is started.
1985 The first degree program for training professionals in cooperation with Newport University is offered.
1986 A checklist system to assess corporate effectiveness is developed.
1987 STAR - the Sales Talent Assessment Review is updated to a video-driven and computer-scored assessment instrument.
1988 The new training method "Personal Engineering" undergoes extensive testing.

The training program "Personal Engineering" is developed.
1989 The European Trainer Pool moves to the USA and changes its name to Institute of Training and Development.

Behavior modification in training and development is researched.
1990 The Institute of Training and Development (ITD) expands into a world-wide network.
1991 Eight-part video series "Aspects of Human Behavior" is produced.
1992 ITD develops guidelines and procedures for the evaluation of training professionals and companies.
1993 ITD is awarded the Professional Contribution Award from the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD).

ITD is awarded the European Award of Masters for Innovation in Training and Development.
1994 The Institute of Training and Development becomes the official sponsor of the Accrediting Alliance for Training and Development (AATD).
1995 ITD is awarded the German Trainer Award in bronce from the German Trainer Association for the assessment and sales training program “FIT”. This program was developed by Dr. Kellner and Dr. Bosch for the training of retail salespeople.
1996 AATD develops the accreditation process and competency-based standards for trainers, performance consultants and business coaches.
1997 ITD is awarded the Top100 Producer Award from AV Video and Multimedia Producer Magazine for the first MBA online program.
1998 The Accrediting Alliance for Training & Development (AATD) creates the Training & Development Credit (TDC)TM.

Training Magazine Germany is converted to become the world-wide online publication Lifelong Learning Magazine.

1999

United States Online University, The University for Performance Professionals is founded.
2000 The first computer-based competency simulator for the training of soft skills is developed.
2001 Lifelong Learning Magazine reaches a world-wide readership of 100,000.

2002

ITD is awarded the Top100 Producer Award from AV Video and Multimedia Producer Magazine for the first e-Learning platform based on evolutionary code and artificial intelligence.
